AIRPORTCITY St. Petersburg is happy to invite friends and partners to a Veronica Taussig exhibition opened at the Erarta Museum

Veronica Taussig exhibition titled “Red, Black and Yellow” was officially opened at the Erarta Museum of Contemporary Art on 18 April.

The first exhibition by a Viennese artist Veronica Taussig to be held in Russia, it was organized by the Erarta Museum. The art objects presented at the exhibition combine sculpture and painting: you can see works made of metal, copper, nickel, aluminium, wood, perspex and paper. Veronica uses a wide range of forms in her art, from regular and geometric structures to biomorphic and multilayer ones. Captivating a viewer by their rich palette, the artist's works are filled with the joy of life and simple colours.

Veronica Taussig was personally present at the opening day and shared some of her technical solutions with the public. The artist starts creating a sculpture by first preparing industrial cardboard models or foam patterns, then painting them and passing them to technicians, who work directly with aluminium and polymers. Along with sculptures, exhibition guests will also have a chance to admire her lightboxes and works made of paper. “The most difficult work I've done for the exhibition was a set of 40 pictures (Stripe Reliefs). All of them are distinct from each other and are very bright. They had to merge into a single composition in harmony with each other,” says the author of the exhibition.

Veronica Taussig used to be an interior designer until 2015, and then she began to think about creating her first art objects. She used to collaborate with four- and five-star hotels, and her family interacted a lot with architects, which later found reflection in her art. Her main incentive, however, came from her contact with the art of the first half of the twentieth century. The artist became incredibly inspired by the exhibition of late colourful themes by Henri Matisse, which she visited in New York. Upon her return to Vienna, she set out to recreate the master's idea and gradually came to find her own technique. “I do not fully understand how this happens, but I realize that this is something that gives me happiness. This is a great joy and, in fact, even a privilege – to suddenly start doing something new and to become an artist at my age, when most people retire and do nothing,” – adds Veronica.

Red, Black and Yellow is Veronica Taussig's fifth solo exhibition. The artist's works have been exhibited in Berlin, Lodz and twice in Prague.

The St. Petersburg exhibition is open to the public at the Erarta Museum until May 19, 2019.
